This policy page is currently under construction
Note: The contents of this policy apply only to pages. They do NOT apply to discussions.
As a wiki dedicated to the collection of information on anything and everything Prehistoric Park-related, we strive to have content organized neatly and easily accessible. Therefore, this page is here to help you understand how content on the wiki should be organized.
However, since parts of this page are still under construction and subject to change, we encourage you to help us shape our editing policy. If you believe something should be implemented, or that we have failed to mention something not clarified on this page, please reach out to our wiki's admin team via the links provided under "Administrators" in the "Community" drop-down tab. We are open to any and all suggestions.
What should have its own page?
Sufficient content to warrant a whole page cannot be written for everything in the show. As such, some information should be put into "category pages" (i.e. Modern Prehistoric Park Residents).
People
Own page
- "Main characters" in the show (Bob, Nigel, Saba, Suzanne).
- "Important" people who worked on production of the show.
Category page
- Unnamed or minor characters should be put into the Prehistoric Park Staff page.
- Information about actors can be put into the page about their character.
Animals
Own page
- Species featured in Prehistory. This includes extant species featured in prehistoric settings.
- Individual animals belonging to an extinct species that are given names in the show.
- The cut Cave Lion, which Nigel was to have encountered in prehistory.
Category page
- Modern species should be put into Modern Prehistoric Park Residents page.
- Individual animals in the park that are not given canonical names or belong to an extant species should be put into the Individual Creatures in Prehistoric Park page.
Techniques/tools
All techniques and tools should belong to category pages.
Episodes
All episodes should have their own page.
Time periods
A page should be created for the "most commonly used" time to which prehistoric events featured in the show are attributed. This means the geological time period for every page other than Pleistocene, which is an epoch. A Holocene page on the wiki is unwarranted.
Events
Content pertaining to events should belong to the episode in which the event took place. Extinction events should be discussed in Time Period pages.
Locations
Locations in Prehistoric Park given a name should have a page. Other locations in the park should be put into the Locations in Prehistoric Park page. Other modern day location outside the park can be mentioned in the episode pages. The policy has not been decided yet for Prehistoric Locations.
Editing Policy
Editing policy should be put into this page.
Miscellaneous pages that should not be put into a category page
- User Reviews
- Pages for the TV series and Park.
- The Time Portal.
- Date pages.
- The main wiki page.
- The Impossible Pictures page.
Prohibited Content
Non-canonical material
The purpose of this wiki is to provide a source of information about the Prehistoric Park series. As such, information and pages pertaining to "fanon," or anything else that is not part of the show or "directly" related in terms of canon or production, do not belong. This includes animals, both living and extinct, that do not appear in the show and fictitious animals.
Cut content, however, may be discussed.
Links to other websites
Links to pages on another FANDOMs are acceptable only if our FANDOM is involved in a partnership with the community being linked to. Links to pages on wikipedia.org are acceptable, as are links to official pages related to prehistoric park or references for materials cited in the page.
Prohibited content outlined in FANDOM's Terms of Use
As with all wikis under the FANDOM network, articles are expected to be in accordance with FANDOM's Terms of Use. Therefore, anything that contains pornographic content, hate speech, software viruses, and illegal content are not permitted on the wiki.
Page Formatting
Note: This is the most incomplete section. It will be updated continuously. However, for the moment, do not delete sections from articles just because they are not listed as appropriate by this policy.
Category Pages
A brief paragraph describing the "category" should proceed the page. After than, a single-column table should have a header row for names and a normal row for information about each item being discussed.
Pages about characters (humans and animals that have their own pages)
- A paragraph without a header should start the page, including a summary of the character being discussed.
- Paragraphs for the character's role in the plot should come next. Sections about each episode should have a header naming the episode being discussed, unless the character is only relevant in one episode.
- A "portrayal in series" paragraph should come next. It should have a header.
- If the character is a human, another section about the actor should be present after these paragraphs. This section should have its own header.
- Trivia should come next, if applicable. It should have a header.
- The gallery should be at the end of the page.
Page Names
Page names should, where possible, be based on the names used in the series to refer to the page material. Here are some examples of how this applies.
- For character names, Nigel Marven's name is used throughout the series. Therefore, it is appropriate for his page to carry his full name. However, Bob and Suzanne are referred to as "Head Keeper Bob" and "Head Vet Suzanne." Their full names are never used in the series.
- For animals, the Toxodon in the series are always referred to by their genus name as opposed to any of the species names. Therefore, the genus name is the appropriate page name in this case. By contrast, Tyrannosaurus rex is primarily referred to as "T. rex," its species name. Therefore, the species name is the appropriate page name in this case.
Article Categories
The purpose of categories on FANDOM communities is to help readers navigate through different types of articles. However, on many wikis, large quantities of needless categories are added which only serve to create conglomerations of text at the bottom of pages that are never used by readers. Therefore, only a few categories which are important and broad enough to be used by readers are permitted on this wiki. They may be found in this section. If you believe another category is important, please message an administrator.
Articles
All articles may be added to the "Prehistoric Park Wiki" Category
Animals
The following categories are permitted for articles about specific species or genera of animals featured.
- The "Animals" category is permitted.
- The "arthropods" category is permitted. However, an "invertebrates" category is not because all invertebrates in the series are arthropods. Therefore, "arthropods" is just as broad in the context of the series.
- One for each Prehistoric Park episode in which the animal was featured.
- One for a higher taxonomic classification (i.e. Mammal, Reptile, Fish).
- For the purposes of this wiki, "Bird," "Dinosaur," and "Reptile" are separate categories. Dinosaurs should NOT be added to the reptile category, and birds should NOT be added to the "Dinosaur" category. While this rule is not taxonomically correct, it is intended to help readers, since, for example, a person clicking on "Bird" is unlikely to be looking for non-avian dinosaurs.
- One for the animal's diet (Carnivore, Herbivore, Omnivore).
- The "rescued/not rescued" categories are permitted.
Human Characters
The following categories are permitted for articles about human characters featured.
- The "Humans" category is permitted.
- The "Animals" category is NOT permitted for humans. While this is taxonomically incorrect, again, readers on the "animals" category are unlikely to be looking for humans. The ONLY exception to this rule is the Cro-Magnon page. Their portrayal is not really different from other "threatening" species encountered in prehistory such as the Cave Bear or the Albertosaurus, and people searching for animals in the series may be interested in that article.
- The "Park Staff" category is NOT permitted as all human characters presented on screen were in some way affiliated with Prehistoric Park, with the exception of Saba and POSSIBLY Bill, Jim, and some of Nigel's other associates. The former is only one character, and the latter individuals are all "background characters."
Animal Characters
The following categories are permitted for articles about non-human characters featured.
- The "Animals" category is permitted.
- One for each Prehistoric Park episode in which the animal was featured.
- One for a higher taxonomic classification, as described in the "Animals" section.
- The "Characters" category is permitted.
Locations
The following categories are permitted for articles about locations.
- The "Locations" category is permitted.
- Categories for the episodes in which the location was featured are permitted.
- The "Locations in Prehistoric Park" category is permitted.
Episodes
The only category that episodes should be added to is the "Episodes" category.
Category Articles
"Category" articles are intended for grouping together topics with not enough information to warrant their own page. Examples would be "Modern Prehistoric Park Residents."
For these articles, 1-2 categories are permitted. It is not necessary to add the whole page to multiple categories just because one subtopic belongs to them.
Tools
- All articles pertaining to equipment used to help run Prehistoric Park or rescue extinct animals may be added to a "Tools" category.
Date Articles
- Date articles are allowed a category for the year they are set.
Techniques
All articles pertaining to techniques used to help run Prehistoric Park or rescue extinct animals may be added to a "Techniques" category.
Editor-assistance Categories
Editor-assistance categories such as "articles to be deleted" and "articles to be cleaned" are permitted where applicable.
Terms
For articles about terms, the "terms" category is permitted.
Time period
The only category that time period articles should have is the "time period" category.
Behind the scenes
All pages relating to the behind the scenes/making of Prehistoric Park should have the "Behind the Scenes" category.
